South East Australia

South Australia is known as Australia‟s wine capital, with 18 distinct wine regions, producing around half of Australia‟swine each year. Its varied climate and land contour is a god-send for wine-growers, nurturing a wine portfolio heavily focused on powerful red wines; most of which are famously made from Shiraz. Cabernet Sauvignon also thrives here, particularly in Coonawarra, as well as many white varieties; Adelaide Hills especially makes some quality Chardonnay varieties. 

The South Australian, Mc Laren Vale wine region, is very highly regarded throughout Australia and the world. Due to its diverse climate and geography, which is Meditteranean in style, a wide array of grape varieties are grown here. It is most renowned for its 

dry red wines, especially those made from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Merlot are also grown. White wine varieties in the region include Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. 

Coonawarra is also renowned as one of Australia ’s finest wine regions, attributed with producing some of the best red wines in the country; very well known especially, for its Cabernet Sauvignon. What makes this region perform so well is its unique combination 

of rich red terra rossa soil, limestone, pure underground water and a long cool ripening of the grapes. The resulting wines are fruitful and concentrated, yet with well integrated tannins. 

Another well known region is Adelaide Hills, which is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Australia. Pertinent to this regions grape growing is the altitude of its vineyards, cooler climate and various valleys and hilly terrains. These climatic and terrain variations, produces a range of meso climates, so vineyard site selection key for wine producing. The ripening season in Adelaide Hills is dry, which, and the temperature’s cooler, which makes the grapes mature at a slow pace, resulting in concentrated wines. The climate is perfect 

for Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Semillon, Pinot Noir, and in particular many top quality Chardonnays.
